DOG TRAINING CLASSES Classes for older dogs are held at Messing Village Hall, near Tiptree, Essex 8pm on Wednesday evenings and at Elm Hall School, Witham, 8pm on Thursday evenings. The classes are small, up to 8 dogs, to give the opportunity for group and individual tuition. The classes involve group, paired and individual activities. Owners are encouraged to develop their dog’s confidence, using a variety of techniques, including handling by other people, simple exercises involving mazes, cones and walking on different surfaces. Equipment, such as gates, tunnels and hoops are also used to develop motivation and confidence in owners and dogs. There are also games and fun challenges to maintain interest. Basic commands, including, sit, down, stay and leave an object, are part of the training programme, together with simple obedience techniques. This includes distance control, coming to heel, targeting objects and an introduction heelwork to music as part of the fun. We also play games to reinforce training in a fun way. The Kennel Club Good Citizen Scheme Sliver or Gold awards are available for owners who would like to take part. Kind training is based on rewarding desirable behaviours and ignoring undesirable ones. This is done with food treats, toys and owner interactions with the dogs. Clicker training is also available. This is a great way to train your dog to achieve a wide variety of commands and behaviours. Some of the comments made by past clients: 'Fun, entertaining classes' Lisa and Rolo from Braxted. Lisa's daughter Tia aged 9 said 'brilliant fun I love the doggies games.' |
